The running dance - contemporary dance and movement training

Running is one of the most fundamental forms of human movement, as is dance; in this practice Knut proposes an investigation of where these forms may intersect. The sessions are an opportunity to explore how seemingly simple fundamental movement principles present in running, might serve as an athletic and creative base for a contemporary dance practice, ranging from floorwork to jumping.

Knut's lifelong fascination for general athleticism and movement, combined with his experience of training and working as a dance performer, offers a precise and detailed training that involves playfulness, risk, rhythmicality and socio-spacial interaction in the group; working specifically on technique, balance, strength and locomotion. some of the apparent principles are cross lateral movement or spirals, elasticity and interconnectedness.

The workshop participants follow the pull of gravity into an unstable state of balance, to explore momentum, speed and efficiency, looking for agility and attentiveness of the whole body system and the group-space-situation; and move run float swiftly lightly steadily, expanding what constitutes a dance, a run.

The inside eye - performative improvisation research

Performance practitioners are invited to take a look at themselves and each other, resting in the shared physical practice from the morning, diving into a guided research of performative improvisation; looking for awareness and connections, creating, and breaking them in the room, in the group, in time.

Applying the tools to stay on track, and get lost. It's memory work, presence, connotations; working on decision making, or choosing chance, or surprise. Whilst asking: "What do I think I'm doing?", "What do others think it is?", "What did I just do?", "How do I acknowledge my presence in this specific space and time and set of people?", "How can I observe my creative process without interrupting it?", "What's a mistake?", "What if I change my mind?"
