Jack Philp is a choreographer working at the intersection of dance and digital technology

There will be a joint Showing Friday 14 November 6pm, with resident Artists Jack Philp and Cormac Mohally

Jack Philp is a choreographer and director working at the intersection of dance and digital technology. During this residency Jack will continue the development of a new choreographic research project exploring the evolving relationship between the body and digital technologies. Diving into our evolving relationship with the future, his research asks how we position ourselves in a rapidly shifting world, and what it means to be human amid accelerating technological and cultural change.

Through improvisation, motion capture, and feedback loops between dancers and digital representations of their movement, the research aims to develop a dynamic, physical language that places the body at the centre of the digital space. The process will investigate how movement can generate digital data and how this data, in turn, can inspire and influence new choreographic possibilities. This residency offers an opportunity to shift the narrative around technology from something abstract or distant to something physical, tangible, and creatively generative. For Jack, this process is not just about experimenting with tech, but about building an environment where digital tools enhance, rather than replace, live performance and embodied experience.

This residency marks a timely moment in Jack’s practice as he deepens his connections within Ireland’s dance community. The research will contribute to a growing body of work that speaks to the potential of dance as a space for innovation, accessibility, and collaboration. By integrating emerging technologies with human creativity, Jack aims to lay the groundwork for a future full-scale production while building meaningful artistic relationships within Ireland’s vibrant arts ecology.

Jack Philp is an internationally recognised choreographer and director, and the Artistic Director of his independent collective, Jack Philp Dance. His work, which merges live dance, digital technology, and science, has toured and connected to venues and festivals across Europe and the UK. Recent commissions include works for Dublin Youth Dance Company and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at University of Limerick (MA Contemporary Dance Performance). Alongside this, Jack has also recently led a UK tour of his production Into the Novacene and an international collaboration with Planetarium Hamburg focused on immersive technologies. Jack's creative practice spans stage, screen, and immersive digital experiences, with collaborations across dance, fashion, sound, AI, and immersive tech. He has created work for Intoto Dance Company, National Dance Company Wales, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, and recently collaborated with the National Ballet of Jersey. An experienced facilitator, Jack led NDCWales as their Interim Rehearsal Director before becoming their Engagement Artist in 2022. He is also an alum of the Clore Leadership programme and continues to lead in both professional touring companies and youth dance.
