Zoë Ashe-Browne Sound as World Building

Choreographer Zoë Ashe-Browne undertakes a research and development residency at Dance Cork Firkin Crane exploring sound and movement as equally weighted compositional elements.

Working in collaboration with composer and music producer David Anthony Curley and dance artist Christina Guieb, this residency investigates how a sonic world can shape and drive choreography from its inception. Rather than creating movement first and adding music later, the artists will develop sound and physical material simultaneously, allowing each to inform, challenge and transform the other in real time.

Drawing from Irish sonic textures alongside bass, synthesiser and atmospheric melodic structures, the research centres on world-building: creating an immersive, evolving environment in which the body and sound coexist as interdependent forces.
This residency offers a focused period of experimentation outside the pressures of production, enabling risk-taking, deep listening and collaborative exchange. The work-in-progress emerging from this research will inform the next stage of Ashe-Browne’s choreographic practice, expanding her interdisciplinary methodologies and deepening her exploration of sound-led dance-making.
Sound as World-Building reflects an ongoing commitment to developing innovative choreographic processes and sustainable artistic growth.

Zoë Ashe Browne is a freelance dance practitioner from Dublin. She has performed with renowned companies including the English National Ballet, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, and Eastman – Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

In 2022, Zoë was appointed Associate Artist with both Dance Ireland and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp. She is currently an Artist in Residence with Lúaíl, Ireland’s National Dance Company, and serves as a Guest Rehearsal Director for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. Alongside her professional practice, Zoë is a guest lecturer at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance,
University of Limerick. Her choreographic work has been presented across Europe, including performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and as a finalist at the Hannover Choreographic Competition in 2024.
