Rachel Shiel will teach a class whilst in residence at Dance Cork Firkin Crane this October
Rachel Sheil will be in residency at Dance Cork Firkin Crane this October where she will explore and interrogate her own choreographic practice towards a goal of creating a new solo and use this time to deepen and question her practice. Rachel has Contemporary Dance and Street Dance experience, and derives movement from comic books, anime, TV and fantasy media. On the Thursday of her residency Rachel will teach a class that will focus on a somatic warm-up that builds in energy throughout, learning easy phrases so that the mover can self-research and explore. Play, joy and fun is the name of the game here! The will also be a focus on imagery, imagination and moving through different movement qualities such as isolations, use of the face and foot-work
Trained with a BA and MA in Contemporary Dance, Rachel also received an ADPA in Street Dance from Urban Strides, London. She is a teacher, performer and choreographer based in Limerick City. Most recently, Rachel performed her solo What to Say... at the What Next Festival 2023. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Limerick Youth Dance Company. She is passionate about the accessibility of Contemporary dance and wants to invite people into a world of fantasy through her work.
