Firkin Crane Theatre, Cork: ROAM Launch by Tinderbox Collective

Cork musicians and inclusive Scottish funk Orchestra Launch Northside creative project with free concert

Roam launches with a free family friendly concert.

The Northside is happy out, five years since the pandemic started, it’s encouraging Cork to Roam.

Roam starts with a fanfare on February 15th. Local musicians including some from Music Generation Cork City, Musical Neighbourhoods, and The Kabin Studio, are collaborating with Scottish community orchestra Tinderbox Collective.

Tinderbox Orchestra is a 21-piece group of singers, rappers, brass, strings, and woodwind musicians, backed by a powerful rhythm section, that re-imagines what an orchestra can do. Their concerts are nights of eclectic invention, swinging between styles, sounds, sensations.

Cork and Tinderbox come together for one night only to celebrate the launch of Roam.

Music, dancing, laughter, play.

One great, unique, night out, open to all.

Tinderbox’s tour is made possible by ‘We Make Music Instrument Libraries’:
https://wemakemusicscotland.org/instrument-libraries/
We Make Music Instrument Libraries is an initiative and campaign to get musical instruments into public libraries across Scotland. Launched in 2022, there are currently over 30 instrument libraries up and running in 10 local authorities with more joining soon. The libraries also organise music lessons, workshops, gigs and events in their buildings, supporting local music hubs and educational opportunities in community settings across the country. Organised by a growing collective of library services, music teachers and community music organisations, the programme is convened by Scotland’s music education network ‘Music Education Partnership Group’, also known as We Make Music Scotland. Tinderbox Orchestra are now taking this campaign and initiative further afield touring around the UK and Ireland, linking up with Libraries, musicians, artists and organisations who might be interested in joining the campaign.

Roam is supported by Creative Ireland through the Creativity in Health and Wellbeing in the Community fund. Unlocked is a community arts initiative led by Cork City Council in partnership with the Irish Hospice Foundation, Cork City Partnership, HSE Southwest, and Cork Healthy Cities. Through Roam Cork City Council and Irish Hospice Foundation are collaborating to address the enduring impact of the pandemic on children and older adults by making some serious fun.
