Sophie Hutchinson teaches two classes this winter
Class begins with a practical floor-based practice before introducing weight through a collection of stones that Sophie will provide. We’ll work physically and instinctually through improvisational scores that support curiosity and responsiveness in the body. This approach has been central to Sophie’s performance practice over the past three years, supporting a felt connection between the body, space, and the earth. Through sensing, weight, and attention to space and one another, we will explore ease, grounding, and relationship in movement. Participants are welcome to bring their own stone if they wish.
Sophie Hutchinson is a dance artist and movement practitioner, originally from Waterford and newly based in Cork. Her work moves between live performance, screen-based projects, and collaborative practice with other artists. She develops improvisational and site-responsive work, exploring movement as a physical language and a way of listening. Sophie regularly collaborates with musicians, filmmakers, and visual artists. Rooted in somatic research, her practice values individual movement quality, curiosity, and connection, and continues to evolve through residencies, shared projects, and playful exploration in movement.
