Firkin Crane Theatre, Cork: Professional Class with Salma Ataya

Cloud Study dancer Salma Ataya teaches a professional class

This class explores improvisation and floor work with a focus on softness and moving with less effort. We will use imagination to influence our movement and flow, allowing ideas to shape the body. Through both improvisation and set movement phrases, we will investigate a sense of light alertness—staying present, ready, and responsive. Together, we will practice continuous motion, responding softly to change, and finding ease, fluidity, and flow in movement.

Salma Ataya is a dancer, performer, and choreographer. Raised in Ramallah, she began dancing through Dabkeh before discovering contemporary dance through workshops with international guest artists at Saryyet Ramallah and the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival. Since then, she has lead various dance workshops and classes and worked with a number of companies including John Scott’s Irish Modern Dance Theatre, Catherine Young Dance, Séverine Chavrier, Théâtre d'Orléans Paris, Justine Doswell, Mary Nunan, CoisCeim dance theatre, Rob Heaslip, Laura Murphy, Junk Ensemble and Pan Pan Theatre.
