Firkin Crane Theatre, Cork: Professional Class with Róisín Whelan

Róisín Whelan will teach a dynamic and energetic contemporary class

Róisín Whelan will teach a professional class while she is in residency at Dance Cork Firkin Crane this November.

We will be moving through a dynamic and energetic contemporary class that will include a warm-up of floorwork, and release work, along with reflecting back on the classical form in some centre work throughout. By the end of the class, we will be working through to full-bodied phrases of movement to finish the class at a high intensity. We will be working on strength and conditioning through the arms by going in and out of the floor, challenging our own skills as movers, and pushing our physicality through this one-hour and thirty-minute session.

The class will be fast-paced and full of physicality but will include variations to suit all levels of experience, although some prior dance training is recommended.

Róisín Whelan is a choreographer and movement director whose work spans dance, theatre and opera. Recent works include Íomhá (Carlow Arts Festival/AC), The Glasshouse (Ballet Ireland), Man Down (AC), The Galaxy of Occupations (DCC, Tipperary Dance), The Tipsy Flamingo (Spain), and Parting Glass (Malta). She is Assistant Director on Falstaff at Glyndebourne and La Giaconda at Greek National Opera, and will be associate choreographer and director at Houston Grand Opera in 2026.
