Contemporary Dance & Improvisation: Conscious Attunement

This contemporary dance and improvisation class invites participants to explore movement through the practice of conscious attunement. Through guided movement explorations, we investigate how to attune ourselves to our own inner pulsation, while becoming sensitive to the dynamics of others and the space around us. By opening our senses and deepening our awareness, we explore our individual movement qualities and how breath can accompany, support and transform them.

The practice encourages us to discover an embodied flow, a movement that emerges from within, deeply anchored in the body and responsive to the present moment. Through improvisation, we create space for curiosity, connection and personal expression, allowing movement to unfold organically from our own physical experience.

Dereck Cayla is a French-Irish dance artist, choreographer and movement educator based in Cork, Ireland. A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, he has over 20 years of professional experience in contemporary dance.

He spent much of his career in Amsterdam, working with ICK Dans Amsterdam under the artistic direction of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, first as a dancer and later as rehearsal director, artistic coordinator and teacher of the Double Skin / Double Mind methodology. His work has taken him internationally, teaching and performing across Europe and North and South America.

Alongside his artistic practice, Dereck is a certified Pilates and yoga instructor and the creator of Embodied Flow – Conscious Attunement, an approach that brings together contemporary dance, somatic exploration, breathwork and movement awareness.
