In Memory of John Ashford
Aerowaves founding director passes away.
The team at Dance Cork Firkin Crane are very saddened to hear of the passing of Aerowaves founding director John Ashford in December 2023.
As Director of both The Place Theatre (1986–2009) and Aerowaves (1996–2022), he promoted artists’ careers in the UK, Europe and beyond, and he also encouraged the development of criticism as part of the culture in which dance grows. In recognition of his influence, innovations and commitment, he received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards (UK) in June 2022, where he spoke of being “of service to and through dance”.
He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the wider dance community.
