Inclusive Dance Cork is a pilot training programme open to dance and movement practitioners interested in learning inclusive dance methods. It is planned as a two-year training programme for professional artists, teachers of dance, and dance practitioners, inclusive of people with and without disabilities.
The programme was initially conceived by Croí Glan and Dance Cork Firkin Crane, and is funded by the Community Foundation of Ireland through a donation by an anonymous donor. Inclusive Dance Cork’s partners are University College Cork, Suisha Arts: Cope Foundation and Cork ETB.
Modules
There are two overall modules: Technique and Facilitation and Creation and Performance, which will run concurrently throughout the pilot year of the programme. Sessions are led by IDC Artistic Director Rhona Coughlan and expert tutors in the fields of dance, disabilities and facilitation.
Training covered in the programme includes; the history of inclusive dance, guidelines and best practice around working with people with disabilities, and skills in facilitation, improvisation, choreography, scoring, and creation.
Dates
IDC runs over eight 2-day blocks from September 2022 – May 2023, taking place mainly at Dance Cork Firkin Crane.
Semester 1:
Sunday 11th and Monday 12th September, 10am-6pm
Sunday 16th and Monday 17th October, 10am-6pm
Sunday 27th and Monday 28th November, 10am-6pm
Semester 2:
Dates TBC in August 2022
Accreditation & Application
Applications for the course officially open in August 2022.
Learners who apply for Inclusive Dance Cork through the University College Cork are eligible for Micro Credits from the university.
You may also apply directly to the course through Dance Cork Firkin Crane without a Micro Credit option.
Inclusive Dance Cork is a free training programme.
