Laura Murphy Dance will be in residence at Dance Cork Firkin Crane in August and in November
During this residency Laura and her team will research and develop a new work to include live dance, animated film, original music and song, narration and lighting designs. The research is informed by a series of multimedia portraits of women in dance in Ireland. The work encourages a rethinking of the traditional structure and hierarchies of dance and art. It offers a deep meditation on dance, on a life lived in dance and the intertwining of the two.
Laura is an award winning contemporary dance choreographer, performer and artist. With her trademark all female casts, her work has been described as gentle and eccentric. She has developed a multi-disciplinary dance practice, working in stage performance, film, installation and large socially engaged projects. Laura Murphy Dance has been programmed nationally and internationally, most recently at Tanzmesse and Dublin Dance Festival 2022, and Fira Tarrega 2021.
