Magdalena Hylak's two week Ceist Residency with Lionel Kasparian is to develop the materials of her first production: Insight.
Magdalena Hylak is back in Dance Cork Firkin Crane for a two week Ceist Residency with Lionel Kasparian to develop the materials of her first full-length production: Insight. Commissioned by Clifden Arts Festival for September 2023, Insight is a multidisciplinary solo event conceived in collaboration with composer Lionel Kasparian as a site-specific production. Her intention is to share the intimacy of her personal dance evolution: from the past through visual contents to the present through live performance.
Insight is a 50 minutes promenade style performance to be premiered in an underground car park in Clifden. Audiences will be guided by original sound composition to travel through the transformed space. Projections of Hylak’s previous dance works set in Connemara will be seen on two successive screens, juxtaposing the concrete, enclosed car park with an expansive natural landscape.
Magdalena’s intention with Insight is to share the intimacy of her personal dance evolution: from the past through the visual content to the present through live performance. The Connemara landscape featured throughout has nourished her artistic approach for ten years: raw, repetitive, physical. Insight strips away any personal content from the artistic work (narrative, emotions) and aims to open space for audiences to enter and engage from their own perspectives.
Magdalena will teach a weekly professional class on Thursday 6 and Thursday 13 July.
