Womb Bones is a collaboration between circus artist Linda Cullen and visual artist Etaoin Melville.
Linda and Etaoin are in the development stage of creating a one woman performance that merges aerial dance, text, film and projections, they are integrating the different artforms to enhance the overall storytelling and visual aspects of the performance. The show explores the changing roles of motherhood interlinking the relationship of daughter and grandmother. Weaving personal anecdotes, whilst reflecting the theme of lineage to gain perspective on these shifting identities.
Linda and Etaoin will work with Deirdre Dwyer who has extensive experience in directing, producing, and set design. The focus will be on the theatre aspect of the work to develop the narrative and dramaturgy aspect of the performance. It will also be an opportunity to experiment in incorporating aerial dance and visuals. Linda Cullen and Etaoin Melville say "Having this space is invaluable for us to manifest the project, we are very grateful to Cork City Council for funding this opportunity and Firkin Crane for opening their doors to us."
Linda Cullen has a background in circus and street theatre, she is a multidisciplinary artist merging song, theatre and aerial dance. Her previous performances engaged topics of body image, femininity and ceremony. Etaoin Melville has a first class honours degree in visual art (TUD Sherkin Island) she specialises in video and installation art. Her work seeks to reflect the strength and fragility of life experience using colour and form as abstract emotional expression.
