Featuring work by 18 artists.
Crane Visual at Dance Cork Firkin Crane in association with the Grilse Gallery, Killorglin, are proud to present Le Salon du Kerry; a group exhibition of artists selected from both County Kerry and from the print collection of the Grilse Gallery.
The featured artists are: Darragh Kinch, Silke Michels, Dorota Borowa, Úna Ni Shé, Rochelle Lucey, Deirdre McKenna, Zoë Uí Fhaoláin Green, Jacqueline O'Driscoll, Ciara O'Connor, Cathy Giles, Karen Hendy, Alan Raggett, Niall Naessens, Lucy and Robert Carter, Cormac Boydell, Rachel Parry, Charles Tyrrell and Lisa Fingleton
This selection of 18 artists came about as a result of an artist’s get together at the Grilse Gallery in late 2023. Curator Dermot Browne explains:
“Having attended the VAI / Kerry Arts Office Get Together in Killorglin I was left with the feeling that there were enough artists in the room and enough manifest good-will to produce an exhibition in the short-term. This is a conscious effort to work against the stream in terms of the expectations around both meeting curators and planning exhibitions. The thought was; what might happen if we didn’t take 2 - 3 years to plan and strategise an exhibition, but instead trusted in the moment and created a context for the ‘artistic flow’ that acknowledged that moment in time?
Allowing for what Chögyam Trungpa called “First thought, Best thought” this exhibition is an act of faith in the idea that the inherent content and meaning in the works of these artists will find a common ground of expression given the chance. Only after the fact did it become obvious that this “act” then echoes the long established historical pattern of transporting butter up from Kerry to the butter market in Shandon, current site of Dance Cork Firkin Crane, and that we were in fact delivering a new form of sustenance from “The Kingdom”; ART.”
You are invited to join us for the official opening of Le Salon du Kerry on Thursday 18 January 6-8pm at Dance Cork Firkin Crane. Free event, all welcome to join us for refreshments.
