Firkin Crane Theatre, Cork: Catch Workshop Series 2025

Catch Workshop Series runs for three days this June

Catch Workshop Series is an intensive programme of workshops focused on training and creation for professional dancers, curated by Luke Murphy / Attic Projects. The masterclass workshops will be taught by leading national and international dance professionals. The series, which launched in 2017 as Catch8, is an an initiative by Luke Murphy to give an intimate group of professional dancers the opportunity to work with a rotating faculty of choreographers and dancers who are at the very height of the field.

The schedule for the workshops is as follows:

Sunday June 15, 10am-1pm Lewis Major | 2pm-5pm Emma Martin
Monday June 16  10am-1pm Hannah Shepherd | 2pm-5pm Seppe Baeyens
Tuesday June 17 10am-1pm Seppe Baeyens | 2pm-5pm Hannah Shepherd

Lewis Major

This workshop draws on Lewis Major’s movement methodology, using imagery and tactile prompts to help dancers uncover their unique artistic voice, prioritising individuality over technical uniformity. Participants explore texture, sensation, and physical metaphor to expand their movement range, pushing beyond habitual patterns toward full-body awareness and efficiency.

The session begins with dynamic improvisation, then shifts to structured phrases that integrate strength, alignment, and gravity. Lewis and his dancers provide hands-on guidance to refine floorwork mechanics, building toward advanced manoeuvres with control and confidence. Emphasis is placed on harnessing energy intelligently, utilising the floor as both a partner and a catalyst for momentum.

Emma Martin

Emma's work plays between pedestrian and virtuosity, making dances that move through textures and physical states, so that the rough, delicate, gestural and wild can all exist in the same moment.

Hannah Shepherd

Hannah's workshops are an in-depth exploration into improvised movements, tapping into the body's intellect and allowing emotion to move through the system. Hannah will lead the group through the use of textured language and vivid imagery, along with music to bring you into a state of sweaty freedom and personal creative flow.

Sebbe Baeyens

Breaking existing role patterns or expectations, choreographer Seppe Baeyens challenges you to show yourself through dance and movement making. Slowly but surely, new relationships and dynamics will emerge. Seppe Baeyens has always seen intergenerational work as being essential to showing the most human and vulnerable form of dance. The imperfection of dance and the way different generations relate to it are inseparably linked to his artistic practice. During this workshops he will share his expertise.
