Join us for a free outdoor performance this June
A Joyful Square Dance is a newly commissioned participatory dance project by Dance Cork Firkin Crane. Join dance artist Inma Pavon for a special outdoor performance this June featuring community participants who have been training with Inma this spring.
Celebrating the work that is happening within the walls of the Firkin Crane as well as the new roof over our heads, and bringing dance outside for the public to enjoy, the performance invites you to share the energy and inspiration of being part of a dance class.
‘When I think of a dance class, the first image that comes into my mind is the beautiful paintings by French impressionist and artist Edgar Degas. His drawings of ballet dancers in a dance class portray something that only dancers and teachers get to experience. As a dancer and teacher for almost 30 years, I have been very fortunate to experience in first person the transformative process that occurs within the confine of a dance studio.’ This project wishes to share this 'transformative process' with the public and hopes the audience will feel it in their bodies throughout the performance.’ – Inma Pavon.
There are two free, outdoor performances to enjoy. All Welcome, bring a friend.
Please note: As this is an outdoor, public event the only seating available are the benches in the square.
This project is a programme of the Government’s Public Art: Per Cent for Art Scheme following recent roof refurbishment works carried out at Dance Cork Firkin Crane that were funded primarily by Cork City Council and the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
