attune, transitive verb ...

 1 :: bringing into harmony

 2 :: making aware or responsive

Attuning may be described as a psycho-somatic ‘listening practice’. Through gentle somatically oriented movement improvisations, alongside compositional explorations, a 3-fold map supports our 3-fold listening:

3 Spaces                                  Inner Space – Outer Space – Third NonSpace

3 Capacities of Awareness       Sensory - Kinaesthetic - Energetic

3 Centres of Intelligence            Belly – Heart – Head

Attuning evolved within Mairead’s 30-year professional dance & choreographic practice. While framed within the context of her Arts Practice PhD, Attuning is the Source through which Mairead’s dance practice & creative process continues to evolve. This practice is informed by Somatic Movement & Choreographic Practice, alongside Bio-Dynamic Cranio Sacral Therapy.

Please bring warm comfortable indoor and outdoor clothing you can move in, a yoga mat & reflective writing/drawing materials.

This workshop is open to performers and all artists interested in working with an embodied approach.

Mairéad Vaughan (PhD) is an independent dance artist, choreographer, facilitator and writer. Mairéad trained as a professional dancer at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (UK) and continued her studies at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL, graduating with an MA Contemporary Dance 2000, and an Arts Practice PhD in 2016.  As artistic director of Shakram Dance Company (1999 – 2014), Mairéad created a body of fifteen original choreographic works, all supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. Her work toured nationally and internationally, encompassing live theatre performance, music and dance collaboration, site-specific dance and film. Her current choreography as an independent dance artist is multi-disciplinary in nature. She works collaboratively with visual, video art/screendance and live performance installation. She is passionate about ‘Attuning’ as an ever-deepening practice of ‘embodied wholeness in motion’.

This workshop is curated by Helga Deasy, Dance Artist in Residence at Dance Cork Firkin Crane with kind support from the Arts Council Ireland and Cork City Council.
