“When you wear this woven band, you hold the city in your hand”.

Set in Paris, the story centres on Quasimodo, the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, who spends his time locked away in the Cathedral bell tower. Quasimodo longs to be with other people, leading to his chance encounter with the enchanting gypsy dancer, Esmeralda at the Festival of Fools. Taunted by the crowds for his disfigured look, Esmeralda takes pity on Quasimodo and comforts him, only for him to be banished once again to the bell tower by his master, the evil Frollo. When the beautiful young woman catches the attention of Quasimodo's guardian, Archdeacon Frollo, Quasimodo does everything in his power to protect her from him. Things take a drastic turn for Esmeralda, when she is accused of killing a soldier, who was sent by Frollo to capture her. Determined to defend her, Quasimodo does everything in his power to try and save Esmeralda.

A tragic story filled with kindness and evil. Join the dancers from CYBC as they recount the tale.

Choreographer: Sinead Murphy; Lighting and Set Design: Tim Feehily
