Open Call for Young People
Seeking participants for new project Built on Bridges.
Helga Deasy, Cork City Dance Artist in Residence at Dance Cork Firkin Crane, is inviting children aged 8-12 to participate in a new creative performance project Built on Bridges as part of Cork Midsummer Festival.
Do you enjoy movement and creativity? Would you like to dance, make new friends and perform as part of Cork Midsummer Festival? Are you 8-12 years of age?
Built on Bridges is a dance performance about Cork City. It is inspired by our beautiful city resting on islands, shaped by the River Lee and the Harbour with its quays, docks, laneways and its many bridges.
Over the course of 6 weeks, the children are invited to explore and discover their own movements, to dance with props and to work together in creating a piece of choreography. They will perform the choreography alongside professional dancers in the Theatre of Dance Cork Firkin Crane as part of Cork Midsummer Festival.

Taster Workshop: Wednesday, April 26th, 3:30-5pm
Workshop 1: Friday, May 5th, 3:30-5pm
Workshop 2: Friday, May 12th, 3:30-5pm
Workshop 3: Friday, May 19th, 3:30-5pm
Workshop 4: Friday, May 26th, 3:30-5pm
Workshop 5: Friday, June 2nd, 3:30-5pm
Rehearsal 1: Tuesday, June 6th, 6-7:30pm
Rehearsal 2: Thursday, June 8th, 6-7:30pm
Rehearsal 3: Wednesday, June 14th, Time tbc
Rehearsal 4: Thursday, June 15th, time tbc
Performance 1: Friday, June 16th, 7pm
Performance 2: Saturday, June 17th, 2pm
Performance 3: Saturday, June 18th, 2pm
Participation in this project is free of charge. Costumes for the performances will be provided. Commitment to all dates (workshops, rehearsals and performances) is a requirement to participate in the project. Previous experience in dance is not required, however enjoying movement and creativity is a must.
